Adding comments on report cards is crucial for several reasons:

  1. Personalized Feedback - Comments give personalized feedback on a student's strengths, areas for improvement, and achievements, providing a more complete view of their progress.

  2. Encouragement and Motivation - Positive and constructive feedback has the potential to greatly enhance a student's motivation and self-esteem. It serves to enlighten students on their strengths and encourages them to strive for continuous improvement.

  3. Communication with Parents - Report card comments play a crucial role as a means of communication between educators and parents. They serve to provide insight into a student's academic and social progress, facilitating parental understanding and enabling them to effectively support their child's educational growth at home.

  4. Guidance for Improvement - Providing constructive feedback through comments offers students with precise direction on how to enhance their work. This can assist them in directing their efforts towards specific areas that require improvement and foster a mindset of continuous growth.

  5. Holistic Assessment - Comments enable educators to evaluate and convey not only scholastic achievement, but also conduct, diligence, and interpersonal abilities. This comprehensive methodology guarantees that all facets of a pupil's growth are taken into account.

  6. Building Relationships - Personalized comments foster stronger relationships between teachers, students, and parents by demonstrating the teacher's attentiveness to the student's individual needs and progress.

Here are the steps involved in adding comments, and enabling them on the report cards.

1) Add Comments in Gradebook

Classe365 offers 2 type of comments in the gradebook section:

  1. Overall Comment - is the comment set in the overall scores column for a subject in the gradebook. This comment will be visible on the report cards for students/parents.

  2. Assessment Comment - is the comment set in the assessment's score blocks, this comment will only be visible on the "Gradebook" section for students/parents from their portal.

Once the overall comment has been entered, it'll be displayed in the top-right corner in the sky-blue background. To edit the comment simply click on the highlighted block.

2) Enable Comments on the Report Card

After capturing the comments on the overall score block, you can then enable the comments to appear on the report card from the "Grade Setup > Report Card & Gradebook Settings > Add/Edit Report Card".

Copy the data variable "Subject Comments" and include it in your report card format.

In case, you want the comments to be published within the "Score Table" then click on the "โš™๏ธ" button in the "Subject Score Table".

And enable "Comments".

3) Reload the Report Card

Visit the student profile, and go to Report Cards to find the comments appearing on the report card.
